Author visit inspires Round Hill Elementary students with storytelling, music and life lessons

Fourth and fifth graders at Round Hill Elementary School enjoyed an engaging visit from author Daryl Cobb, who has written 18 books that draw from his own life experiences.

Mr. Cobb shared his journey to becoming an author, showing how moments like playing baseball and facing bullies while growing up inspired him to write the story, Baseball, Bullies & Angels.

“Use your own lives in your stories,” he encouraged, reminding students that not every detail needs to be invented, and real-life experiences can be broken into pieces and woven into fiction.

Students participated in hands-on activities, including a group drumming session exploring the role rhyme and rhythm play in storytelling, and using real-world photos to gather inspiration for fictional settings.

The assembly wrapped with a lively lesson on conflict and resolution, as one student acted out a Thanksgiving mishap involving chocolate getting smeared on her new shirt. Together, Mr. Cobb and the students built tension and crafted a creative resolution, reinforcing the idea that in every story actions need to have carefully considered consequences.
