Kristin Shaw is excited to begin her 23rd year in education, having begun her career in education as an high school English teacher in the South Bronx in 2003. After nine years as a NYC teacher, and having served in various leadership roles, she was hired as an Assistant Principal at Washingtonville High School in 2013, and continued in that capacity until she transitioned to Round Hill as its Principal in 2022.

One of the many positive aspects that initially drew her to the Washingtonville School District was the individual effort that each and every staff member invests each and every day to ensure that our schools are inclusive and inquisitive places of learning for our students. It is through this collective effort that our community ensures that it provides for the development and growth of our students; we continually try to improve upon the experiences and opportunities that we offer our students.  A priority for all who work in this district is the ability to collaborate effectively with others in the community on new initiatives and opportunities for our students - and getting to know the families that make our community a special place to live and work, as well!

Ms. Shaw grew up in a small town much like Washingtonville (although MUCH smaller!) in Western New York, and sought a place to work that paralleled that “small town feeling” where everyone knew each other and looked out for one another. It is her belief that when students feel seen and heard, and when they have made personal connections with the administrators, staff, and teachers in the building, and allowed the opportunity to shine, it is much more likely that they will have a positive outlook on school - and that they will be more likely to succeed, as well! 

Ms. Shaw lives in Montgomery with her husband, and their three sons -- one in 3rd Grade, one in 8th grade, and her oldest son will begin his second year at SUNY Plattsburgh in their Nursing program this fall.

Ms. Shaw loves to read and tend to her garden. When she finds the time, she loves to bake, as well! She is an avid movie lover, listens to a wide range of music, loves football, and baseball, and has a background in theater. 

Ms. Shaw is proud and honored to continue as Principal for the school, and looks forward to another fantastic year of making memories and showcasing the amazing work of our faculty, staff, and students at Round Hill!
