Message from the Incoming Principal

To the Round Hill Parents, Students, & Community:

I am very excited to be joining the school community as Principal for Round Hill Elementary School. I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce myself, and to share a bit of my educational background. I began my career as a certified English teacher in 2003 with the NYC Department of Education, where I worked as both a general education teacher, and in special education self-contained and collaborative classrooms, as well. I also served in various leadership roles during my time as a teacher -- as a grade team leader, literacy coach, mentor, and assessment coordinator before stepping to my last administrative role as an Assistant Principal at Washingtonville High School, where it has been my honor to work since 2013.

Over the past few years, I have been a part of numerous committees and initiatives that have served as a means to enhance educational opportunities for our students and I hope to continue in those efforts at Round Hill. Within the first weeks, my goal is to go into as many classrooms as I can on a daily basis, to get to know our students, and to observe their time in the classroom. I am excited to see the great things happening in the classrooms and to experience our students’ enthusiasm for learning firsthand!

I believe that good communication is an essential attribute in a collaborative learning community, and we cannot make progress in our goals unless we are willing and able to talk with one another, directly and respectfully. If any parent or guardian has a question or concern, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

I am looking forward to a fantastic year, and getting to know our learning community at Round Hill Elementary School. Please enjoy the remainder of your summer break, as we quickly approach the beginning of a new school year!

Be well,

Kristin Shaw
