Kindergarten builds Gingerbread houses with family and friends

The lunchroom echoed with the excited chatter of students and their families on Wednesday morning as they gathered the supplies they’d need to build their gingerbread houses. Skittles, marshmallows, graham crackers, pretzels and gummy bears decorated the tables as they worked collaboratively to construct the roofs and walls of their homes.

Gingerbread house building is an annual tradition for kindergarten students at Round Hill Elementary School.

“We’ve done this for a really long time,” said Holly Kodilanen, a kindergarten teacher at Round Hill. “We have an entire gingerbread day, and this is one of the great ways we can have the parents participate. After the students are done building, we go back to class and have gingerbread centers, a dance party and basically anything gingerbread.”
